After a multi-title entry is split, a status qualifier or a stray letter can be left as a "title" of its own: 'DIRECTOR - THRU 6/16' gives DIRECTOR and THRU, 'DIRECTOR - PAST' gives PAST, 'DIRECTOR & S' gives S (Part VII review, F-007). Such a fragment sets the matching status flag on the person (FORMER, PARTIAL or FUTURE) and is dropped when the person has another title; when it is the only title, the title becomes empty.
