Read IRS e-file index files — get_irs

Reads the IRS index_<year>.csv files from the Form 990 series downloads and keeps the requested return types.

Usage

get_irs_index(years, form_types = c("990", "990EZ", "990PF"), timeout = 600)

Arguments

years: Integer vector of IRS index years (the year the IRS processed the filing, not the tax year).
form_types: Return types to keep (RETURN_TYPE). Default keeps 990, 990EZ and 990PF; use NULL to keep all.
timeout: Seconds allowed for each download.

Value

A data.table of index rows.

Details

Every column is read as character, so OBJECT_ID and EIN keep their digits. Index years before 2024 have no XML_BATCH_ID column; it is added as NA. INDEX_YEAR records which file each row came from.
